    I thought those of you in the DC area might be interested in the following. This is a good opportunity for OASIS members to get an insight into the work of the OGC and the OGC membership without their being an associated sales pitch by the presenters or by OGC staff.
     
    This workshop intended to be an educational and informative forum.

    The Open Geospatial Consortium Inc. and the Geospatial Information and Technology Association are hosting an Interoperability Day

    Wayland, MA, September 20, 2006 - The Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc. ® (OGC), in association with the Geospatial Information and Technology Association (GITA) will host an Interoperability Day Seminar focusing on the confirmed benefits of using standards-based interoperable geospatial technologies and the challenge for the future. The event, to be held October 4, 2006 in Tyson's Corner, Vienna, Virginia will kick off with a live demonstration emphasizing the benefits of standards based services for coordination of emergency management and response across cooperating organizations and jurisdictions.

    A diverse panel with representatives from Oak Ridge National Labs, Canadian Forest Service, U.S. Naval Research Lab and ESRI will explore how their organizations and users benefit from interoperable solutions. Chief Technical Officer of Parsons Brinckerhoff, Doug Eberhard, will give the keynote address, speaking about "Extending the Geospatial Landscape: Addressing the Complexities of the Urban Landscape." A closing panel with representatives from FM Global (insurance company), the Department of Homeland Security, the at Dallas and NASA will look ahead toward future interoperability challenges and address attendee questions.

    The closing session will include remarks by David Aylward, Director of the Emergency Response Alliance, one of OGC’s newest partners in the standardization efforts.

    The day will wrap up with a social presented by Gold Sponsor ESRI and Silver Sponsors Boeing and e-Spatial. During lunch and the social, OGC members will be available to demonstrate their interoperable solutions at the Vendor Interoperability Showcase.
