Subject: Fwd: RE: FW: [soa-rm] FEA Data Reference Model (DRM) 2.0 Now Final

I am
happy to announce that the FEA Data Reference Model (DRM), which has been
in process since February 2005, was released publicly as final yesterday
by the U.S. Executive Office of the President, Office of Management and
Budget (OMB[1]). Its release was originally thought to be delayed until
4-6 more weeks, but OMB surprised us (the DRM 2.0 initiative) by
releasing it yesterday as final, with no updates requested. The biggest
change since the last draft is the addition of guidance for federal
agencies on how to use (implement) the DRM. I have been supporting this
initiative since it began.
This reference model, part of the U.S. Federal Enterprise Architecture
(FEA), was developed in conjunction with a 124-member Working Group
comprised of 30 <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns =
"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />U.S. federal
agencies in all 3 primary areas of government (civil, defense, and
intelligence). The primary purpose of the DRM is to enable information
sharing and reuse across the federal government via the standard
description and discovery of common data and the promotion of uniform
data management practices..
A data management strategy is also in process, and its release is planned
for early 2006. An updated draft DRM XML Schema is also in process (I
have just released a draft for internal review by a subgroup of the DRM
initiative), and should be available publicly in early 2006.
If you have any questions on this document, please let me know.
Happy Holidays!
Joe
