Hello! - The virtio TC has elected to manage all business by means of voting by electronic ballot. - Accordingly new members should gain voting rights at the end of the 60th day after they became a member. Unfortunately this does not happen automatically and there are no reminders. Additionally some people join then lose interest by the time 60 days pass. I am inclined to say that people should actively request the voting rights after 60 days. Would it be ok for the TC to vote on adopting this clarification in rules? Also, I would like this and other info about the TC to be automatically mailed to joining members. Can this be set up somehow? Thanks! -- MST

Hi Michael,  That is in fact what the rules say now (although it takes reading to find it!) In 2.4.4 Voting Member part (c ), the last sentence reads "A Member of a TC that does not hold Meetings may regain voting rights by making a request to the chair(s) to regain them, effective at the close of the 60th day after the request." I would apply that to the initial 60 day period as well. I don't suggest voting on it as a 'clarification' of the rules. If someone were to complain to me, I'd probably have to overrule the implied change to the rule. The better approach would be to point to this existing text and simply note that the TC will be operating on the expectation, in line with what's in the rules, that the member who desires voting rights needs to make the request to the chair at the end of the 60th day.  Unfortunately, there is no way to automatically provide information to joining members beyond the welcome message currently sent out.
