Paul,   Here are minor revisions (w/ changes tracked) to the ECF 4 Web Services and Portable Media SIP specifications that address the issues you recommended be resolved before posting these specifications for public review.  I’ve also responded to each of the issues inline below.  The TC will consider these changes during our monthly call scheduled for Tuesday, May 10.   Please let me know if there is anything else we need to address prior to posting as a committee specification draft (CSD) and 30 day public review.     Thanks,   Jim Cabral MTG Management Consultants, L.L.C. www.mtgmc.com (206) 442-5010 Phone (502) 509-4532 Mobile   Helping our clients make a difference in the lives of the people they serve.   The information transmitted is intended only for the person or entity to which it is addressed and may contain confidential and/or privileged material.  If you received this in error, please contact the sender and delete the material from any computer.   From: Paul Knight [mailto:paul.knight@oasis-open.org] Sent: Wednesday, May 04, 2011 12:41 PM To: James E Cabral Cc: Chet Ensign; Robin Cover Subject: Re: [chairs] An introduction to your new Director of Standards Development and TC Administration   Hi Jim, In looking over the two documents, I noted a handful of fairly minor items which you will probably want to update before you upload them as working drafts into Kavi, in preparation for having the TC vote on them as Chet has outlined. My employer was one of the founding organizations of SGML Open in 1993 and we built the consortium's first website (fondly known as "SGML Open House" for any of you who remember it). I also served on the TAB in its early years and co-chaired the LegalXML Legislative Documents TC. I feel well versed in both OASIS process and culture.   I first got involved with SGML back in 1991 when my staff and I built a markup-driven, multi-output technical documentation publishing system for a database software company, Information Builders, Inc. I later worked at Matthew Bender, a boutique legal publisher, and at LexisNexis where I managed the development and implementation of content architecture standards and governance for their legal, news and business information products. My most recent position before joining OASIS was at Bloomberg LP, where I used XML data and metadata to package legal information in new and useful ways for customers.   Throughout all these roles, I have concentrated on helping my management, peers and colleagues understand how the use of data standards adds efficiency, reliability and economy to the process of developing complex, inter-related information systems. I have also sought to manage the push and pull between long-term strategy and short-term practicality in productive ways that let us all get work done while making continual improvements in our systems. I hope those experiences will prove helpful in my new roles here at OASIS.   The new Standards Development team at OASIS consists of me, Paul Knight, and (partially) Robin Cover. Let me say from the start that I am indebted to Robin for his extraordinary service as transitional TC Admin. I intend to take full advantage of his knowledge of the open standards landscape in general and the OASIS TC Process in particular as I come up to speed in my new role. I am also grateful to have a seasoned OASIS veteran like Paul onboard. As a team, we are committed to providing you with the assistance, instruction, and advice you need to ensure your goals are met and your TC work is productive.   I will be reaching out to as many of you as possible in the weeks ahead to learn more about your work, your plans, and what I can do to help. In the meantime, if you have any immediate needs, questions, or comments for me, please don't hesitate to get in touch. I am open to your input and excited to be working with you all.       Best regards,       /chet   ----------------   Chet Ensign   Director of Standards Development and TC Administration   OASIS: Advancing open standards for the information society http://www.oasis-open.org       Primary: +1 973-378-3472   Mobile: +1 201-341-1393       Follow OASIS on: LinkedIn:     http://linkd.in/OASISopen Twitter:         http://twitter.com/OASISopen Facebook:   http://facebook.com/oasis.open             -- Robin Cover OASIS, Director of Information Services Editor, Cover Pages and XML Daily Newslink Email: robin@oasis-open.org Staff bio: http://www.oasis-open.org/who/staff.php#cover Cover Pages: http://xml.coverpages.org/ Newsletter: http://xml.coverpages.org/newsletterArchive.html Tel: +1 972-296-1783       -- Paul Knight   - Tel: +1 781-861-1013 OASIS - Document Process Analyst ---  Begin Message  --- From : Mary McRae <marypmcrae@gmail.com> To : "Cabral, James E."<IMCEAEX-_O=ECG_OU=FIRST+20ADMINISTRATIVE+20GROUP_CN=RECIPIENTS_CN=Jec@RED001.local>,"mary.mcrae@oasis-open.org" <mary.mcrae@oasis-open.org> Date : Thu, 9 Oct 2008 05:58:44 -0700 Thanks Jim!     I’ll try to get the rest of these uploaded today.   Regards,   Mary   From: Cabral, James E. Subject: RE: Posting of ECF specs   Hi Jim,     I’ve gotten the 4.0 versions up – I needed to do a bit of cleanup to the document cover URIs to make them conform to the templates and make sure everything worked. The 3.1 and 3.01 versions need a lot more work – the cover template is off, and the Notice section is the pre-2005 IPR Policy. Also, errata are only allowed to OASIS Standards; the errata change should instead have just been incorporated into the spec and new CD approved.   On a related note, is the TC not interested in putting their specifications out for public review and then voting them to Committee Specification status? While they may not be interested in OASIS Standard, it does seem that achieving the highest level of approval within the TC would be worthwhile.   Just to make sure you understand the usage of the docs.oasis-open.org library – any specification that is submitted for public review or a higher level of approval must be uploaded to docs and must conform to all of the OASIS rules with regard to template usage, conformance clauses, authoritative declarations, naming guidelines, etc. Working drafts are never uploaded to docs and remain only in Kavi; Committee Drafts * may * be uploaded upon request, but must conform to all but the conformance clause and authoritative declaration requirements.   The checklist can be found here: http://docs.oasis-open.org/templates/QAChecklistV2.html   Regards,   Mary   From: Cabral, James E. Hi Jim, Thanks for the careful cleanup.   These look good. For proceeding with the Public Review of these documents, I'll add a few more details to the process that Chet has already described: - You will need to make versions of these documents with all the changes "accepted", and include them in ZIP files with their associated files (similar to the ZIP files you sent with this message). - Upload the ZIP files to the TC document repository, and note the URIs.   (Use the publicly-visible form of the URIs, as described in the Naming Directives, http://docs.oasis-open.org/specGuidelines/ndr/namingDirectives.html#accessibleURIs .) - In the TC motions to approve these documents for Committee Specification Draft and Public Review, refer to these URIs. Regarding the earlier versions of the documents, it looks as though the TC Admin team will need to work with you to get things sorted out.   I have created an issue in our issue tracking system (JIRA) to begin this process.   You and TC members can track the progress at http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/TCADMIN-485 . Regards, Paul P.S.   Since I worked on a couple of TCs/Working Groups with Ã?mit Yalçınalp, a wonderful woman of Turkish origin, I felt I had to correct that reference... Best regards,       /chet   ----------------   Chet Ensign   Director of Standards Development and TC Administration   OASIS: Advancing open standards for the information society http://www.oasis-open.org       Primary: +1 973-378-3472   Mobile: +1 201-341-1393       Follow OASIS on: LinkedIn:     http://linkd.in/OASISopen Twitter:         http://twitter.com/OASISopen Facebook:   http://facebook.com/oasis.open             -- Robin Cover OASIS, Director of Information Services Editor, Cover Pages and XML Daily Newslink Email: robin@oasis-open.org Staff bio: http://www.oasis-open.org/who/staff.php#cover Cover Pages: http://xml.coverpages.org/ Newsletter: http://xml.coverpages.org/newsletterArchive.html Tel: +1 972-296-1783       -- Paul Knight    -  Tel: +1 781-861-1013 OASIS - Document Process Analyst ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From:  Mary McRae < marypmcrae@gmail.com > To:  "Cabral, James E." <IMCEAEX-_O=ECG_OU=FIRST+20ADMINISTRATIVE+20GROUP_CN=RECIPIENTS_CN=Jec@RED001.local>, " mary.mcrae@oasis-open.org " < mary.mcrae@oasis-open.org > Date:  Thu, 9 Oct 2008 05:58:44 -0700 Subject:  RE: Posting of ECF specs Thanks Jim!     I ??ll try to get the rest of these uploaded today.   Regards,   Mary   From: Cabral, James E. Subject: RE: Posting of ECF specs   Hi Jim,     I ??ve gotten the 4.0 versions up ?? I needed to do a bit of cleanup to the document cover URIs to make them conform to the templates and make sure everything worked. The 3.1 and 3.01 versions need a lot more work ?? the cover template is off, and the Notice section is the pre-2005 IPR Policy. Just to make sure you understand the usage of the docs.oasis-open.org library ?? any specification that is submitted for public review or a higher level of approval must be uploaded to docs and must conform to all of the OASIS rules with regard to template usage, conformance clauses, authoritative declarations, naming guidelines, etc.
