Subject: [idtrust-sc] OASIS IDtrust Member Section Steering Committee
Nomination and Election Schedule
Dear StC members,
Here is the nomination email below, please send feedback. I need to get
Scott's approval to send this out then we are good to go.
Best,
Dee
OASIS IDtrust Member Section --
Three seats on the IDtrust Member Section (MS) Steering Committee (SC) are
up for election shortly. One seat is for a one year term and two seats are
each for two year terms. The term will be determined by vote ranking. The
IDtrust Member Section Steering Committee has five elected members, each
serving two year terms with staggered elections.
The nomination and election procedures for the IDtrust Steering Committee
are defined by two documents, the OASIS Member Section Policy (See [1]) and
the IDtrust Member Section Rules of Procedure (RoP) (See [2]):
[1] http://www.oasis-open.org/who/ms_policy.php
[2] http://www.oasis-idtrust.org/RoP
Any organizational member of the IDtrust Member Section can nominate or be
nominated as a candidate for these three positions on the Steering
Committee. An OASIS Member may join the IDtrust MS by having their
organization's Primary Representative notify member-services@oasis-open.org,
indicating they want to reallocate a portion of their membership dues to the
IDtrust MS. There is no additional OASIS membership cost to join the IDtrust
Member Section. For those who have joined the IDtrust Member Section, a
portion of their OASIS dues is allocated to the IDtrust MS budget, as
described in [1] and [2] above.
Each Member Section Supporting Entity, an OASIS Organizational Member or
Individual Member in good standing who indicates intent to participate
significantly in the Member Section activities and allocate a portion of
their OASIS Membership dues, shall be entitled to have one Member Section
Qualified Elector (See [1]). The Qualified Elector for a Supporting Entity
that is an OASIS Organizational Member shall be that entity's Primary
Representative (as those terms are defined in the OASIS TC Process,
http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/process.php) or that person's
designate.
NOMINATION & ELECTION SCHEDULE
Nominations will be open 03-April-2008 through 24-April-2008.
The election will be held 28-April-2008 through 12-May-2008.
The newly seated Steering Committee will hold its first meeting on
04-June-2008.
NOMINATION PROCESS
Any individual or organizational member of the IDtrust Member Section may
nominate a candidate by sending an email to: nominations@oasis-open.org .
Prior to being confirmed as a candidate, each nominee must:
1. Accept the nomination
2. Confirm they are able to meet the time commitments of the position
3. Provide a background and position statement to help voters know their
qualifications
4. Be a member of the IDtrust Member Section
All nominations and related correspondence should be sent to:
nominations@oasis-open.org.
ELECTION PROCESS
The three new Steering Committee members will be selected by Member Section
members, using the Single Transferable Voting (STV) process - Scottish
Method. Please see (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single_transferable_vote).
STV considers each voter's ranked preference for candidates in order to more
accurately reflect the wishes of the electorate and to eliminate "wasted"
votes.
In summary, when voting, you should indicate your ranked preference for the
candidates, until you can no longer cite a preference. The results are
tallied, in consideration of both the total number of ballots cast and the
ranked preference on each ballot. The total number of ballots cast
determines the threshold number of votes required for a majority. Any
candidate who receives over the threshold in first preference votes would
win a seat. Any excess votes (over the threshold needed to win) are
transferred according to your preferences, going to the second choice
candidate. Also, as candidates who can't win because of insufficient "first
preference" votes are eliminated, those votes are transferred to the chosen
next preference. The process continues until two candidates are elected.
Votes are sent by email to: sc-election@oasis-open.org .
Eligible voters will be sent voting instructions and information on when
voting is open and closes.
Results will be announced immediately after they are tabulated and
confirmed.
