table:filter-condition extension proposal

  • 1.  table:filter-condition extension proposal

    Posted 06-08-2007 19:21
    Hello,

I would like to propose an extension to the table:filter-condition
element to allow storage of multi-string filter data. The details are
attached to this email (I hope this list allows attachment).

The motivation for this extension is primarily to develop a new type of
column filter in OO.o Calc where a user can select multiple text values
to display for each column (or field), and to store such filter data in
the file format without losing its semantics. The proposed change would
allow a clean storage of such multi-text values.

OOXML's SpreadsheetML already has a similar construct for this type of
filter, so this extension would also allow for better interoperability
    between ODF and OOXML.

    Feedbacks are welcome.

IMOHO the values look better as text nodes instead of attributes.
    so instead of:

Ah, ok, let's forget it then.

Then I'd favor the element content as well. To me it somewhat makes more
sense to have an element with data instead of an element without data
but an attribute to express a value.

It is, see ODF section 1.6 "White-Space Processing and EOL Handling".

Again yes. There would also be a line break before the closing element.

I meant to put this and the previous posts in a single post, but my
mailer decided to send it off before it was ready. I apologize for the
    duplication.

I was wondering what the next step should be to push this proposal
forward. Since I'm still new on this TC I don't know the right steps to
    proceed.

I'm hoping to get this change into 1.2, so if anybody could tell me what
else I can do to make it in just in time for 1.2, I would appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    Kohei

Request that Lars (or Michael, if he's back) put it on the agenda to
    discuss during a coordination call.

It seems like something simple enough where consensus ought to be able
to be reached on-list, and the TC discussion is minimal.

    Kohei,

I have listed your proposal in the Wiki[1] now, and it will be on the
    agenda of the next call.
