  • 1.  PAS Submission of OASIS ODF v1.2 to JTC 1: RERs set complete?

    Posted 01-06-2014 08:24
Dear TC members: We believe everything in the ODF v1.2 package is ready to go to JTC 1, except for any lingering issues on the required RERs for external non-standard references.  The list as it stood before the holiday is appended below;  I am not sure if three of the references listed there may are yet unaddressed:  [JIS X0301], [Schneier] and [XAdES].   There's been some ambiguity about whether RERs are needed for the textbook-like references, as the rule is only recently been applied strictly;  but I understand that the TC's preference was to supply a complete set "just in case."  At your upcoming TC meeting, could you confirm whether all of the needed or desired RERs are done, or to be omitted, and let Chet Ensign & I  know if help is needed?  Your next scheduled meeting occurs early in the day for US West Coast time;  but I will check in with Rob and Patrick afterwards by phone, to see how we can help or whether we've reached the finish line. Thanks & kind regards  JBC  James Bryce Clark, General Counsel OASIS: Advancing open standards for the information society http://www.oasis-open.org/who/staff.php     ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: < robert_weir@us.ibm.com > Date: Wed, Dec 4, 2013 Subject: RE: [office] Fwd: Planned PAS Submission of OASIS ODF v1.2 to JTC 1: draft explanatory report To: Chris Rae < Chris.Rae@microsoft.com >, Patrick Durusau < patrick@durusau.net > Cc: Chet Ensign < chet.ensign@oasis-open.org >, Jamie Clark < jamie.clark@oasis-open.org > Hi Chris, Thanks for the RER.  Could you upload it to this folder in Kavi?  This is where I have the ZIP RER and other PAS submission related documents. https://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/office/documents.php?folder_id=2726 Patrick,  any news on the Dublin Core reference?  If you find out it is identical, we could change the reference to ISO/IEC 19788-2:2011.  But I wonder if it would be even easier to just write up an RER for that?  That would remove the need to touch the ODF 1.2 documents, an even greater pain. If I understand, from your longer list, we still have outstanding: [JIS X 0301] JIS X 0301:2002 Data elements and interchange formats – Information interchange -- Representation of dates and times, Japanese Standards Association, 2002. [Schneier] Bruce Schneier, Applied Cryptography (Second Edition), John Wiley & Sons, ISBN: 0-471-11709-9, 1996 [XAdES] XML Advanced Electronic Signatures (XAdES) (ETSI TS 101 903 v1.4.1 June 2009), ETSI, 650 Route des Lucioles, F-06921 Sophia Antipolis Cedex, FRANCE, http://webapp.etsi.org/workprogram/Report_WorkItem.asp?WKI_ID=28064 , 2009 I have a copy of "Appled Cryptography, 2nd Edition" on my bookshelf, so I can write up an RER for that. Any ideas on the others?   Regards, -Rob

    Hi Jamie,

We're proposing to go with a slightly
different list of RERs, for ZIP,  Blowfish, Dublin Core and OLE2,
which are the least "standard" of the set, and the ones which
would most benefit from this additional documentation.   The OLE2
one has been reviewed by Microsoft and approved by the TC.  PKWare
has reviewed the ZIP one and the TC has approved.

The other two have been reviewed/approved
tentatively by the TC but are awaiting a response from the specification
owners (Bruce Schneier and the DCMI).   I'd give these another week.

We have the option to go forward even
without a response (in the RER form we can note that we sent a copy to
them but did not hear back) but it would be preferable to have a explicit
    response.

    Regards,

    -Rob

Thanks very much to you and the whole TC team for all the production work to optimize this submission. Multiple experts advised us that JTC 1's tweaked RER/bibliography rules have recently been elevated to close enforcement scrutiny -- best to comply as fully as possible. Cordially JBC James Bryce Clark, General Counsel OASIS: Advancing open standards for the information society http://www.oasis-open.org/who/staff.php     On Tue, Jan 7, 2014, < robert_weir@us.ibm.com > wrote: Hi Jamie, We're proposing to go with a slightly different list of RERs, for ZIP,  Blowfish, Dublin Core and OLE2, which are the least "standard" of the set, and the ones which would most benefit from this additional documentation.   The OLE2 one has been reviewed by Microsoft and approved by the TC.  PKWare has reviewed the ZIP one and the TC has approved.   The other two have been reviewed/approved tentatively by the TC but are awaiting a response from the specification owners (Bruce Schneier and the DCMI).   I'd give these another week.   We have the option to go forward even without a response (in the RER form we can note that we sent a copy to them but did not hear back) but it would be preferable to have a explicit response.
