Francis Cave created OFFICE-4084: ------------------------------------ Summary: Inconsistencies in the use of paragraph, character and list styles Key: OFFICE-4084 URL: https://issues.oasis-open.org/browse/OFFICE-4084 Project: OASIS Open Document Format for Office Applications (OpenDocument) TC Issue Type: Task Components: Part (Formula), Part (Introduction), Part (Packages), Part (Schema) Affects Versions: ODF 1.3 CS02 Reporter: Francis Cave Fix For: ODF 1.4 All three Parts exhibit similar problems, of which the main cases are: * Two or more styles being used for the same purpose within a draft, e.g. the paragraph styles Text Body and Default Style both being used for body text. * New styles being introduced in later drafts, e.g. the conditional paragraph style Appendix Heading being replaced by the non-conditional paragraph style AppendixHeading1 in CSD02 only. * Styles being dropped in later drafts, e.g. the paragraph style Default Value , applied to paragraphs that contain default attribute values, was somehow removed from Part 3 in WD13-03 onwards. * Many styles whose purpose is unclear and which appear to overlap other styles, e.g. in Part 3 there are four character styles Attribute Value , Attribute Value Fragment , Attribute Value Instance and Attribute Value Param . Another example: Part 4 contains list styles Example Numbering , Numbering 1 and Numbering 5 (what happened to Numbering 2 , 3 and 4 ?). * Poor naming of styles, e.g. the character style Furmula Sub [sic] in Part 3, and inconsistent use of title case in style names. * Lack of stability in style definitions, which seem to change, especially in CSD01 and CSD02, e.g. changes to space above and below paragraphs, font sizes, background colors, etc. -- This message was sent by Atlassian Jira (v8.3.3#803004)

I have started to address this issue, by checking and modifying styles in Part 2 Packages. In doing so I found a bug that I have logged in JIRA as OFFICE-4085. For the revised text of Part 2 see GitHub branch OFFICE-4084. Hi Francis, Francis Cave schrieb am 11-Jul-20 um 11:12: I have started to address this issue, by checking and modifying styles in Part 2 Packages. In doing so I found a bug that I have logged in JIRA as OFFICE-4085. For the revised text of Part 2 see GitHub branch OFFICE-4084. The spacing between paragraphs is better now. But there are still problems, see issue OFFICE-4084. Kind regards Regina

Hi Regina Thank you very much for your comments in OFFICE-4084. I have tried to address these. A new draft of Part 2 is now committed to the OFFICE-4084 branch on GitHub. We perhaps need to discuss which styles are needed because some automated processes expect to find them, but which are not needed for formatting purposes, e.g. 'Default Style' (other than as a template style) and 'History'. See my detailed response to your comment in OFFICE-4084. Kind regards, Francis
