  • 1.  Some suggestions for IAEM mobile alerting title

Friends, I have been talking to emergency management professionals. It seems that cell broadcast is so obscure that hardly any understand how it works, and even fewer care, which is why they don t understand how to get the best out of it. This has been recognised by ATIS. So, I suggest a title that appeals to an audience that does not understand it but wants to fill their need. 1) Why is Mobile Alerting so different? How can I get the best out of it? 2) Mobile alerting is crazy, why do I care? 3) Acute phase of the Disaster! When all lines are jammed, how can I reach 90% of the population in 7 seconds? 4) How can I reach everyone when all the lines are jammed? How can I get what I need out of mobile alerting? 5) Can I reach everyone when all lines are jammed? If so, how best can I get the result I deserve out of mobile alerting? I don t think a dry title about some technology will get anyone s interest peaked. We need to think Click Bait ! Mark

Understood Mark, I think we can put some of your ideas together: So What is Mobile Alerting? Why Should I care? Mobile Alerting! Reach 90% of At-Risk Population in 7 Seconds Mobile Alerting Saves Lives not Reached by Alerting Alone Cheers, Rex On 10/8/2022 9:37 AM, Mark Wood wrote: > Friends, > > I have been talking to emergency management professionals. Mark Mobile Alerting was marketed rather well in Canada in my opinion. So well, that it generally is accepted as a good thing (except for complaints about precision and execution). Its at the point where the populace is asking, why wasn't it used for event X or Y. As for the various alert issuers, they are getting a lot of media queries about why they didn't/don't use the system. So the pressure is building for the jurisdictions not yet on board. The biggest public complaint is of course, targeting the alert area properly. Why did I get the message hundreds of miles away from the affected area? So, I believe the service is a slow build. May flame out in some countries along the way, but likely will come back too as pressure mounts, and of course when new people take over for those on the way out. As for titles... I like Rex's idea of merging some ideas.... "Public Alerts on Cellular Systems! Not perfect - but best reach when you really need it." Norm
