Hi Roger,   The XRI Wiki’s wiki specification of a DDDS application at least shows that DDDS has previously been considered as a template for metadata discovery services.   The OASIS XRI and XRD projects seemed to have encountered a lot of headwind.   Our approach, so far, sticks to reuse of IETF specifications and approaches, and does not try to “enrich” metadata associated with URIs/IRIs or URNs beyond what has been approved in joint IETF/W3C efforts.   Beyond generalizing to the pattern of a DDDS for service(s) discovery, it is unclear whether XRI/XRD approaches need be leveraged.   The history was full of “sturm und drang.” See http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-tag/2008May/0078   And from the other side http://equalsdrummond.name/2008/06/02/time-for-oasis-xri-tc-and-w3c-tag-to-sit-down-together/   Dale     From: Moberg Dale Sent: Monday, September 10, 2012 3:18 PM To: 'Roger Bass'; bdxr@lists.oasis-open.org Subject: RE: [bdxr] Identifier issues - "DDDS complications"   Thanks Roger. I will take a look at it sometime this week and respond in (a bit) more detail.   Dale Moberg   From: bdxr@lists.oasis-open.org [ mailto:bdxr@lists.oasis-open.org ] On Behalf Of Roger Bass Sent: Monday, September 10, 2012 1:02 PM To: Moberg Dale; bdxr@lists.oasis-open.org Subject: [bdxr] Identifier issues - "DDDS complications"   Dale et al,   In doing some work on the BDX Use Cases and related matters, I came across the following that seemed potentially relevant to the DDDS work you’ve been leading, Dale – and perhaps our discussions of MetaData-related specs.  I didn’t really feel competent to assess how relevant this is, if at all, but wanted to draw it to your attention.   In particular, “complications” noted in your document and elsewhere include: ·          Varied identifier schema, including emails, urls and ISO 6523 standard identifiers ·          The use of “special” (i.e. community-specific) domains for discovery / locator endpoints   In reviewing the OpenID Connect Discover spec, http://openid.net/specs/openid-connect-discovery-1_0.html#ProviderDisc I noted this section on Identifier Normalization, referring to the use of Identifiers including email, urls… but also referring to XRIs ( OASIS Extensible Resource Identifier spec here )   There’s also an XRI Wiki , that also refers to XRDs ( Extensible Resource Descriptors ) – and in particular on that Wiki, a DDDS Application for XRD Discovery .   See what you think.   Roger
