Subject: XML-Dev threads on code list issues

    Hi folks,

Not many on the committee follow XML-Dev, but you will find in this
    month's threads at:

       http://lists.xml.org/archives/xml-dev/200602/threads.html

... a thread titled "Versioning of Enums" (broken once so far, but as
of today both broken threads are adjacent in the list) where two
other users of code lists (one in the insurance sector and one in the
mortgage sector) are commenting on the code list value validation
    methodology I posted in December:

       http://www.oasis-open.org/archives/ubl-dev/200512/msg00034.html

The thread was started by the question from the insurance sector
about how to handle W3C Schema expressions of enumerations of
"volatile" code lists. The poster was looking for guidance on the
restriction/extension/union approaches of W3C (much like the methods
I saw used in the UN/CEFACT code list guidelines).

A respondent from MISMO indicated his organization was looking at "a
variety of methods of inheritance available in W3C XSD, however the
tools support is so spotty that we have been uncomfortable in using
    it in the standard".

I responded by indicating we were abandoning enumerations in UBL
schema expressions for code lists, and you'll see in the threads how
I am presenting how our methodology addresses the questions then
brought forward by the two gentlemen.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding
how I'm presenting our proposed methodology.

    Thanks!
