I agree, but the difference is whether it is good practice for the Consumer
to observe the Producer's types and constraints (eliminate round trips that
are guaranteed to fail) or whether a Consumer must run validation in order
to conform to the specification. I think we mean the former ....

I'm a little uncomfortable with suggesting to the Consumer that it is
possible for them to ignore Producer validation constraints.
Operationally,
this cannot be expected to lead to good QOS.
I completely agree that the Consumer MAY specify additional validation
constraints.
