    Dear Scott, dear colleagues, in addition to the previous discussion please consider these information: a) the Summer School LEX2012, apart to organize training session on LegalDocML standard, was the occasion to organize the face2face TC LegalDocML meeting: 17th Sept. I have, as director of the summer school, paid the accommodation to several LegalDocML members for favouring large participation to the meeting and in such way to reduce the cost request to the LegalXML-SC. b) also RuleML2012 conference hosted the face2face LegalRuleML meeting and minimized the travel costs of the main members.     Just to confirm: -- the Summer School line item has been approved. -- Monica did not need to abstain from the budget vote; the SC members were all comfortable with her voting. In the interests of full disclosure: I have a large, geographically dispersed staff, many of whom put in requests for conferences, travel, etc. Like anyone else, I have to parcel out the travel budget and not every request is approved, which is why I told Roger I did not have funds for him to attend the Summer School. He pursued attendance directly with Monica. The fact that he was one of the "students" sponsored by Legal XML came as a surprise to me, after the trip had already occurred. He had a positive contribution to the summer school and to LegalDocML in general, so I'm glad it was beneficial but it was not my intention to have Legal XML fund it. Lesson certainly learned -- either I can pay for my staff's conference/training out of my own budget or they don't attend, period. Regards, Laurel

    Just a clarification to all. Other TC members, apart Roger, received some supports from the summer school in order to attend to the event and/or the TC meeting. This is ok for me, as well as the Roger's request. It was quite strong to hear the Scott's declaration about the "conflict of interest" when it happened exactly the opposite. Due to the fact that I am the director of the Summer School I favoured the LegalDocML TC members, I promoted OASIS inside of the summer school, I presented the TC activities, I asked to the "students" to join to the TC (memberships), reduced the costs, minimized the travel expenditure. Finally I abstained by voting voluntary, as a good legal tradition ask, in order to not create any embarrassment in the SC. I hope that no suspects is pending in the Scott thought, or in any other LegalXML-SC members, after this clarification.     Monica, I am sorry I wasn't more clear -  I have no reason to doubt your judgement, I truly hope it wan't perceived that I implied any wrong-doing in any way.   I know how much you contribute and I continue to be impressed by the valuable work you do. My only point in raising the issue was to ensure compliance with Conflict of Interest principles (as perceived in the US).  You can see the COI Policy that OASIS works under, posted at  https://www.oasis-open.org/policies-guidelines/conflict-of-interest   which describes the responsibility to disclose any *potential* conflict of interest--and therefore removing any opportunity for someone to misunderstand.  Personally, I think disclosure and discussion of your commitment and involvement with both organizations is useful  because it reminds everyone of how we benefit from  your involvement with both organizations!     Monica, I want to second what Scott said in that your contributions to LegalXML and the governance and expansion of the Member Section has been invaluable. Please understand that Scott was just trying to help us stay within in the legal frameworks in which OASIS operates.
