docbook-apps

  • 1.  Is DocBook-xsl compatible with Ruby 1.9?

    Hi, all:

I tried to install docbook-xsl from Ubuntu 9.10 repository.
But, it automatically pick up Ruby 1.8 to install.
I know that to install both Ruby 1.8 and 1.9 is of no problem.
    However, I'm just wondering

    1) Is current docbook-xsl compatible with ruby 1.9 ?
    2) If so, does that mean it's Ubuntu's problem that docbook-xsl ask for Ruby
    1.8 but not Ruby 1.9?

I just want to keep every simple and clean.

Just don't want to install Ruby 1.8 on my computer.

    Best Regards
    JIA

    Jia,

I can't tell you why Ubuntu tried to install Ruby 1.8, but I do know
that the epub transforms (which I think are the only ones that have a
script that uses Ruby) work fine with Ruby 1.9. I use that combination
all the time on my Ubuntu system.

With my Debian package maintainer hat on: I was asked to package epub.
At the beginning it was shipped with docbook-xsl. Now it's an own
package called dbtoepub (I don't know if anybody at Ubuntu picked it
    up).

In both cases the package depends on ruby in general, not a specific
    ruby version.
