to ask a rather silly question. The snapshot page only shows the last
snapshot being in November and the instructions say that this page is
updated automatically when there are checkins.

But according to this page, the latest check ins for anything seems to
    be in November.
    http://docbook.sourceforge.net/snapshot/

Is this information just not current? If I actually used subversion to
pull things to my machine, would I get substantially more up-to-date
    stylesheets?

(I'm talking about all stylesheets, not just the ns version).

I should also note that the DocBook SourceForge.net bug tracker has
    several unaddressed bugs:

    https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?words=tracker_browse&sort=submitted_by&sortdir=desc&offset=50&group_id=21935&atid=373747&assignee=&status=1&category=&artgroup=&keyword=&submitter=&artifact_id=

I've been waiting for a response for the EPUB one for a few weeks now.

There were checkins after that [1] but the build got broken around
that time [2]. Docbook dearly need a helping hand to fix the broken
    piece.

    Hi Shlomi,
The log for broken build is at [1]. First, you have to go through it
and figure out what causes the build failure. After identifying the
error, you may ask about any help from the list on how to proceed. You
may attempt to fix the error in the DocBook source then. (Hope you are
aware of checking out source, submitting patches etc. ) The issue
haven't been fixed for around five months which suggest that little
digging will be needed and the fix might not be an obvious one!

At a previous discussion it was suggested that following causes the
error. This *might* be the case.

tar: ../testdocs/i18n: Cannot utime: Operation not permitted
tar: ../testdocs/graphics: Cannot utime: Operation not permitted
tar: ../testdocs/tests/mathml: Cannot utime: Operation not permitted
tar: ../testdocs/tests/ebnf: Cannot utime: Operation not permitted
tar: ../testdocs/tests/svg: Cannot utime: Operation not permitted
tar: ../testdocs/tests: Cannot utime: Operation not permitted
tar: ../testdocs/imagelib: Cannot utime: Operation not permitted
tar: ../testdocs: Cannot utime: Operation not permitted
tar: ..: Cannot utime: Operation not permitted
tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors
    make: [zip] Error 2 (ignored)

Likewise, I'd love to see it fixed and would be willing to help in any
way I can, but is my understanding correct that the snapshot builds are
turned off now (and I have been since November)? So to diagnose any
problem we first need someone with access to the build machine to turn
the builds back on, then we could see if they're still broken, what the
log says, and proceed from there.

    Thanks,
    David

The line causing these errors is:

    tar cfP - -X /scratch/tar.exclude * .[^.]* | (cd /scratch/docbook-xsl-snapshot; tar xfP -)

Googling for the error brought up <http://www.unix.com/unix-advanced-expert-users/56567-problem-tar.html> which suggests it is a problem during the untarring, and adding m to the options (ie tar xfPm -) would help.

Tar's P option tries to preserve all the permissions and timestamps; Pm will do that *except* for the timestamps.

But why is tar trying to call utime in the first place? I see a number of lines much earlier on using touch like this:

    touch -t 197001010000 `basename $f`

I'd *guess* that's the root cause. Why is the Makefile trying to set the modification times back to (time_t)0?

    Chris

    Yes, it's totally incorrect.

You can browse the changes to SVN here:
    http://docbook.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/docbook/trunk/
This was the last one that changed the behavior of DocBook-XSL:
    http://docbook.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/docbook?view=revision&revision=8993
Alternately, you can see the changes as a graph:
    http://sourceforge.net/project/stats/detail.php?group_id=21935&ugn=docbook&type=svn&mode=12months
