I agree. We have a defined space. We are not THE solution. Or one of 2 competing solutions. We at IPAWS are in a particular mission space of alerting and vanilla poll based message exchange. Planned activities include a technical deep dive with both programs to identify and address incompatibility issues, building adapters to make the systems talk to eachother, discussing methods to handle business rules. v/r Mark A. Don McGarry was in person with myself and Gary on the phone during a 4-hour meeting conducted by the Regional Catastrophic Planning Group (RCPT) ?? a group made up of the states of NY/NJ/CT/PA focused on regional solutions and interoperability. They are looking very closely at the EDXL standards, and evaluating UICDS, IPAWS-OPEN, and vUSA, and so invited FEMA and DHS S&T to the meeting. I wanted to share the following information: 1. The meeting evidenced a continued lack of consistent coordination and communication between the UICDS, IPAWS-OPEN and vUSA programs. Many statements made could have been easily misinterpreted and/or were misleading. The region continues to be very frustrated with this lack of continuity, which continues to negatively impact our mutual objectives. 2. Part of the meeting focused on Common Operating Picture. As many of you know, these folks have been chomping at the bit for some time to get even a preliminary version of EDXL-SitRep. Based upon visibility into the initial requirements and a previous draft of the standard, it is their plan to implement SitRep -based data exchange throughout their regions. 3. Another part of the meeting focused on Resource Request Initiatives and Technologies. That project is further along, and the region has chosen EDXL-RM for their resource data exchange requirements between the 4 States and over 20 counties. They stated that all systems presently in use in the region will have some EDXL-RM based capability in place for cross-system data exchange within just a few more weeks.
