  • 1.  Milestone: OASIS DITA TC approves Committee Draft of DITA 1.1 materials

    Posted 02-14-2007 15:48
Mary, I am pleased to inform you of the decision yesterday by the OASIS
DITA TC to approve the following materials as the DITA 1.1 Committee Draft,
pursuant to initiating a formal public review of this new specification.

Minutes recording the unanimous approval of the Committee Draft of DITA
    1.1:
    http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/dita/200702/msg00026.html

The links below are for the approval drafts of record, with PDFs produced
using IBM's formatter. The next step for us is to produce PDF versions that
include the required OASIS cover page for the public review version. This
time, we will be able to use the DITA Open Toolkit with the XEP formatter
for production, using a cover page override that has been contributed by
Gershon Joseph. We will coordinate that production with Gershon as quickly
as possible so that we can make these available for the public review.

By the way, anyone will be able to use the provided source to produce
preferred output versions (using the DITA Open Toolkit or other conformant
tools) for early implementation or testing. The override for the OASIS
cover page will be specific to the DITA Open Toolkit and the XEP-based
    output plugin.

We will have final links for the public review after we produce the OASIS
versions and upload all the materials under the CD category of our
    documents area.

DITA 1.1 DTDs CD (normative, final)

DITA 1.1 Schemas CD (final contingent on documenting and working around a
newly-discovered parser bug, no design changes remaining--due to be
finished in a few days )
    http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/download.php/22329/dita1.1_refact_b.zip

The DTDs in particular have been well tested for this version, having been
part of the IBM production environment now for several months, and
available for public use as the processing DTDS for the DITA Open Toolkit
    since last August.

I wish to thank all the DITA TC members, contributing reviewers from OASIS
companies, and non-OASIS commenters for their careful focus on the DITA 1.1
designs and specifications, which have significantly more and better
reviewed information than ever before. Congratulations on achieving this
    milestone!

Special note: Editors for this version were Michael Priestley for the
Architectural Specification and Robert Anderson for the Language
Specification. Robert maintained the normative 1.1 DTDs as the design
progressed, and Eric Sirois maintained the 1.1 Schemas that reflect the
    same design patterns for specialization.

Don't we want to generate a web-accessible (aka HTML) version
of the specs? Some people prefer such formats over PDF.

We can do that, Paul. The primary focus for Gershon was the PDF cover page,
but I think we can easily convert the content of that page into a dedicated
initial topic for an XHTML version for the public review.

    Hi everyone,

Just a couple of notes - first, please note the new cover page format at:
    http://docs.oasis-open.org/templates/OASISSpecificationTemplateV3.0Legacy.html
    and documented at:
    http://docs.oasis-open.org/templates/OASISSpecificationTemplateGuidelines.html

Since the TC is currently in IPR Transition mode, and the transition will not be complete until 20 March, the TC should
continue to use the Legacy IPR notice. There is a new paragraph added to the bottom of the Notices section relating to
Trademarks. The paragraph contains a link to the actual Trademark Policy - any appropriate trademarks should be noted.

The second note is related to formats: the formal Public Review submission must contain links to 3 formats: DITA source,
    XHTML, and PDF.

Let me know if you have any questions or need further assistance.

    Regards,

    Mary
