Subject: RE: [docbook-tc] DocBook Technical Committee Meeting Agenda: 28 June 2006
Dee,
I have been following the eMails on the interoperability list, and was
wondering about proposing extensions to the xi:include standard that
would allow additional attributes to specify a source and destination
markup grammar or a transform designator to identify a processor
necessary for converting between the two markups (I am assuming these
would be mutually exclusive attribute sets). We do on-the-fly
conversions among DocBook based grammars by allowing the user to provide
a grammar attribute on our inclusion elements and it has worked well.
The destination grammar is inferred from the transform processing the
document containing the inclusion elements, so only the source grammar
needs to be specified. The alternative of specifying the transform to
use might be useful in other environments. It was easier for us since
all the grammars we use are derived from DocBook, but the conversion
model will have to be defined for any interoperability scheme to work.
Regards,
Larry Rowland
