OASIS XML Localisation Interchange File Format (XLIFF) TC

Dear all,   I have been introducing a part of Micah´s Bly matrix in the wiki. I have not much experience with wikis, so before I continue introducing more data I would like you to have a look and see if you agree with this form of representation. HI Lucia, Thank you for your email and I would like to thank Micah for his work. It is worth pointing out that XTM is capable of reading in and writing out ANY valid XLIFF1.0 - 1.2 file. While XTM only uses a small subset of the available XLIFF elements, it does not prevent XTM from supporting on import and export of an XLIFF file all valid XLIFF elements. This is not obvious from the matrix. Hi Lucía, Good job indeed. Thanks for working on it. The main issue with matrices like this is that the answers, as Micah underlined, are from different people, not necessarily developers. I would add that information from the developers is not necessarily better. They may not have the same definition of what "support" means. For example, I've answered "partial support" for the alt-trans for the Okapi tool, because we support only alt-trans when it is of the alttranstype 'proposal'. But alt-trans has other functions. I'm pretty sure that a few of the alt-trans support labeled "full" in the matrix do not support more than the 'proposal' type either. Or worst: they may not even check the alttranstype and allow to use 'previous-version' or 'rejected' alt-trans entries like a 'proposal' one. That is the case for GlobalSight for instance. (At least for that tool one can check the source code). This said, that matrix contains already a lot of useful information, and I'm glad it exists. For 2.0 we will have to be much more precise in the processing expectations. Cheers, -ys

Hi Lucia,   Several details in the matrix you published are wrong and the wrong information comes from Micah’s original.   There are tools that use XLIFF as internal format and support translating any valid XLIFF 1.2 file. Those tools should have most elements marked as supported and that’s not reflected in the table you published.   I would not publish information in our wiki at OASIS without verifying and correcting it first. We can leave the wrong data were it was originally published, but the TC cannot reproduce that wrong data in its wiki.   I would suggest that the table be deleted, making a backup first because preparing it requires a huge effort, and republished after verifying and correcting the facts.   Regards, Rodolfo -- Rodolfo M.
