  • 1.  Unmodified Schema in the ODF 1.1 Errata 01 PRD01 Materials

    Posted 06-03-2013 19:24
@Rob, Please add this to the agenda for the 2013-06-10 TC Teleconference Meeting. There are two questions: 1. Should the file OpenDocument-schema-v1.1.rng be updated to reflect the two schema-fragment changes that ODF 1.1 Errata 01 PRD01 makes in the text of the document? 2. Is an additional PRD required to introduce the updated RNG Schema file? - Dennis DETAILS The Public Review documents at < http://docs.oasis-open.org/office/v1.1/errata01/csprd01/ > and the Zip of that material include copies of the 2007 Relax NG Schemas (manifest, full schema, strict schema). The file OpenDocument-scheam-v1.1.rng does not agree with the schema fragments in the ODF 1.1-complete PRD01 document. ODF 1.1 Errata 01 PRD01 introduces schema changes. There has been no action to modify the RNG Schema file provided as a companion to the ODF 1.1 Standard. [Note: There is no mention of the separate schema files in the ODF 1.1-complete or ODF 1.1 Errata 01 documents, and no link is provided.] The only schema fragments that are changed by ODF 1.1 Errata 01 PRD01 are recorded at < https://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/OFFICE-3796 >.

With ODF 1.0/1.1, the inline schema was the authoritative version, 1.4  " The normative XML Schema for the OpenDocument format is embedded within this specification. It can be obtained from the specification document by concatenating all schema fragments contained in chapters 1 to 16" (This switched in ODF 1.2, per OASIS requirements, where the stand-alone schema file was authoritative. ) What about Appendix A, which includes the "strict" schema?  Does that require any additional changes? Do we know whether the standalone schema files  are included in the JTC1 version? As for whether require another public review if we change this, it will depend on whether we consider a change to align the non-normative convenience schema file with the normative in-line schema to be a "non-material" change or not. -Rob <office@lists.oasis-open.org> wrote on 06/03/2013 03:24:24 PM: > > @Rob, > > Please add this to the agenda for the 2013-06-10 TC Teleconference Meeting. > > There are two questions: >  1. @Rob, 1. The Strict Relax NG Schema in OASIS ODF 1.1 Appendix A is 61 lines that extract only the strict parts of the overall schema. No bullet to dodge there. 2. In the list of ISO Freely Available Standards, < http://standards.iso.org/ittf/PubliclyAvailableStandards/index.html >, ISO/IEC 26300:2006 has a Zipped PDF download and a Zipped XHTML version. There are no companion files (i.e., the three RNG schema files are not provided by JTC1). While all downloads are Zips, they contain single PDFs with the exception of the XHTML version. I am going to mention this to Frances Cave. When there is another JTC1/SC34/WG6 Corrigenda to align further with ODF 1.1 Errata 01, they might want to include the RNG Schemas as "technical enclosures" in the manner employed for IS 29500 (now at :2012, I noticed recently). - Dennis PS: Although it strikes me as incomplete work, another way to avoid dragging this out is to not include the schema files as companion material in the ODF 1.1 Errata 01 CS01 artifacts, when that state is achieved. That seems icky, the more I look at it.

JTC1/SC34/WG6 has an opportunity to do another Corrigenda anyhow.   It’s quite possible there will be one, although the WG6 membership has not discussed it.   I’ve given Frances Cave, the WG6 convenor , a heads-up and I’ll also be seeing him the week of June 17 here in Seattle.   That may provide more perspective.   We can decide which way to go before balloting to take PRD01 to CS01 if that occurs as currently seems likely.   -    Dennis   From: robert_weir@us.ibm.com [mailto:robert_weir@us.ibm.com] Sent: Thursday, June 6, 2013 01:17 PM To: dennis.hamilton@acm.org Cc: 'Chet Ensign'; 'ODF TC List ' Subject: RE: [office] Unmodified Schema in the ODF 1.1 Errata 01 PRD01 Materials   "Dennis E.
