    Hello Everyone,

It’s election time…Below is a draft letter that will need to be distributed this month.  We have two seats up for re-election -- Jeff Waters and Matt Walton, as well as a discussion needs to be held regarding any inactive committee members.  Please let me know if you have questions.  Regards, Jane

    OASIS Members,

Two (maybe three) seats on the OASIS Emergency Interoperability (EI) Member Section (MS) Steering Committee [1] are open for nominations. All EI MS participants are invited to nominate qualified candidates and/or serve on the Steering Committee. If you aren't currently active in the EI Member Section, now is a great time to join.

OASIS EI accelerates the development, adoption, application, and implementation of emergency interoperability standards and related work. The MS endeavors to represent and serve the needs of all constituents, from practitioners to technology providers including national, international and multinational oversight agencies.

The nomination and election procedures for the Steering Committee are defined by the OASIS Member Section Policy [2] and the EI Member Section Rules of Procedure [3].

Any EI MS participant [4] may nominate or be nominated as a candidate for the Steering Committee. Any OASIS member may join the EI MS [5]. The process to join is simple but it must be completed during the nomination period.

Each EI MS Supporting Entity has one Qualified Elector who casts the single vote on behalf of his/her organization. Unless otherwise designated, the organization's Primary Representative serves as the Qualified Elector.

The Primary Rep may defer the voting member role to another employee member by sending an email to member-services@oasis-open.org; any such change should be in place before the ballot is cast.

    NOMINATION & ELECTION SCHEDULE

Nominations will be held 22 October - 11 November 2010.

The election will be held 13 - 25 November 2010.

    NOMINATION PROCESS

Any EI MS participant may nominate a candidate via email to:  nominations@oasis-open.org.

Prior to being confirmed as a candidate, each nominee must:

    1. Accept the nomination

    2. Confirm his/her ability to meet the time commitments of the position (participation in a two-hour teleconference each month, promote the work of the Member Section);

    3. **Provide background information and a position statement describing his/her qualifications and motivations for serving on the Steering Committee; and

    4. Be a participant in the EI Member Section.

    ELECTION PROCESS

The three new Steering Committee members will be selected by the EI MS Qualified Electors, using the Single Transferable Voting (STV) process - Scottish  Method [6]. STV considers each voter's ranked preference for candidates, in order to more accurately reflect the wishes of the electorate. EI MS Qualified Electors will be sent detailed voting instructions separately.

Results will be announced immediately after they are tabulated and confirmed.

We encourage all EI MS participants to consider serving on the Steering Committee. Please contact (member-services@oasis-open.org) with any questions you might have regarding this process.

    Jane

Three seats on the OASIS Emergency Interoperability (EI) Member Section (MS) Steering Committee [1] are open for nominations. Two seats will serve two year terms and one seat will serve a one year term.

The Primary Rep may defer the voting member role to another employee member by sending an email to member-services@oasis-open.org; any such change should be completed prior to the election.
