public-palcg@w3.org Hi all. It's been just shy of a week since the Public Alert CG has launched, so I'm going to go ahead and get things started. Right now there's just three people (including me) in the group, but I expect this to group a fair amount once things get rolling. First off, are any of you working on behalf of your company, as in on company time? My initial thought is to have a video conference, with me explaining the general idea that I had. What times work for you, if you're interested in a video conference? I can primarily do weekends, as I'm a full time college student. I am located on the US east coast (currently UTC-0500), although my times can be quite flexible. Also, let's introduce ourselves! I'm Jacob, and am currently a first-year student at RIT in Rochester, NY, USA. I haven't done a lot with specifications, but have coded a significant amount in the past few years. I'm a student web developer for RIT, but other than that I'm (basically) the same as any other college student here. I look forward to working on specs with you! Regards Jacob H. Also Norm reminds me that many folks assume CAP will take care of everything. It is indeed a very good basic standard for alerting which fits into a larger “system” of alerting. Yes, we need to reach out to this community. Best, Elysa Jones, Chair OASIS Emergency Management Technical Committee Emergency Interoperability Member Section From:

I think that would be a great thing. Yes, we need to reach out to them to see what their intentions are to make sure they know what has already be done in this area. emergency@lists.oasis-open.org > Subject: RE: [emergency] FYI only: Public Alert Community Group Yes, it is. How do we reach out to these people? They need to know that CAP is an international standard supported and endorsed by the World Meteorological Organization and also ITU-T Recommendation 1303. We can also point them to the 10+ years of annual workshops we have had on the topics.
