    Hi,
    i18n-ers, all,

Thank you for the attendees of the meeting and discussions.
We could cover only use cases, not as far as I had hoped,

but it was due to lively and constructive discussions
and I appreciate them very much.

I will try to do better proceedings in future.

One note: It seems the Lync I used is a bit different from the Lync by MITRE.
You need to use Internet Explorer to join the meeting on your PC.

I will set up another Doodle poll for the next meeting soon.
(I will be traveling to Europe for the next two weeks and

options might be limited, but I will see.)

In the meanwhile, please update the document as necessary.

(I tried to capture things from the meeting in the document.)

I regret missing the meeting. RE use cases,  I have the requirement for i18n. Our product is international and the threat Intel originating from it posted out via TAXII could be in any language. I think Cybox needs to be thought of here as well,  but haven't seen it discussed.  The cybox standard needs to define very strictly how string equality, regexp, and collation must be implemented with STIX for i18n to be properly supported, or else people could very easily create implementations that will blow up when given i18n content. It's not enough to just say it's all UTF 8 so we're covered ,  it's more complicated than this. I also put a third proposal into the working document and am interested if people have feedback. I basically took Ryus proposal and restructured it slightly,  which I think will result in a much more compact translation for most use cases. [cti] RE: i18n Mini-Group Online Meeting - 11PM - 12AM, May 25 (Wed) UTC - Final Announcement

    Hi, i18n-ers, all,

    P.S.
By the way, thank you for John (?) making the i18n Mini-Group meeting
announcement at the OASIS CTI TC online meeting yesterday (5/24).

I tried to make the announcement myself, but my consciousness level
was so low that I could not make my mic work ;;) ...

Jason, John-Mark, Sorry for my late response. I am on the road and having difficulty to send/receive emails. Could you please add/modify Use Cases and Requirements of the i18n document? I think it is particulary important to share concrete examples/use cases where " it's all UTF 8 so we're covered" is not enough. I can't think of anything to add to the document that is STIX specific... and as has been stated, CybOX objects should not be translated, as they are facts... P.S. Please use Unicode when refering to strings that support Unicode characters, and limit UTF-8 use to where we are talking about serialization/encoding of Unicode strings. Trying to decode the correct usage may cause to miscommunications, and assumption that the speaker not thinking about things correctly. > ________________________________________ > From: cti@lists.oasis-open.org [cti@lists.oasis-open.org] on behalf of John-Mark Gurney [jmg@newcontext.com] > Sent: Friday, May 27, 2016 3:55 AM > To: Jason Keirstead > Cc: Masuoka, Ryusuke/?? ??; cti@lists.oasis-open.org > Subject: Re: [cti] RE: i18n Mini-Group Online Meeting - 11PM - 12AM, May 25 (Wed) UTC - Final Announcement > > Jason Keirstead wrote this message on Thu, May 26, 2016 at 10:51 +0000: > > I regret missing the meeting. > > > > RE use cases, I have the requirement for i18n. Hi, John-Mark, Sorry for my slow responses (I am in Tallinn, Estonia, now attending CyCon). > I can't think of anything to add to the document that is STIX specific... > and as has been stated, CybOX objects should not be translated, as they > are facts... I did not plan i18n to be just about STIX and translation, but about making sure CTI with internationalized elements to be communicated to the other end without any problem content-wise and semantically. If there is any case that might be broken, it is great if you can share it on the document. ----- P.S. Please use Unicode when refering to strings that support Unicode characters, and limit UTF-8 use to where we are talking about serialization/encoding of Unicode strings. Trying to decode the correct usage may cause to miscommunications, and assumption that the speaker not thinking about things correctly. ----- I will do so. The cybox standard needs to define very strictly how string equality, regexp, and collation must be implemented with STIX for i18n to be properly supported, or else people could very easily create implementations that will blow up when given i18n content. It's not enough to just say "it's all UTF 8 so we're covered", it's more complicated than this. > > I agree... I have added some inital language to the patterning spec to > hopefully deal w/ this.. Hi, i18n-ers, My apologies for my unresponsiveness during the last two weeks. I was on the road for the last two weeks and had difficulty accessing my emails during that time. I returned to Japan 6/12 (Sun), but I was not feeling well yesterday (6/13 (Mon)). I am dealing with aftermath of email stockpile and trying to get myself together. I will be back online with the discussion as soon as I catch up with i18n threads. Regards, Ryu
