    Greetings!

The first committee draft of ODF 1.2!

Do note that this means we all need to re-double our efforts to proof and
resolve any issues (remaining or otherwise) that we see with the text.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Um, what about the schemas. There are no schemas in the document any more, are we going to provide a copy of the schemas as of the version of this draft?

    Dennis,

I think you have found the schemas yourself already, as you copied from
    them a few minutes ago.

That the schemas are not mentioned in Patrick's mails has the simple
reason that Patrick has uploaded the draft, while I have uploaded the
    schema. See

    http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/office/200902/msg00151.html

    I hope this helps.

My concern was the absence of anything in cd01 that identified the schema that applies to it and that anyone treating cd01 as a "preview" could use to know how to find the schema that goes with it.

I hope that was cleared up on the call. Of course I know where the schema is. I wasn't sure any onlookers would know where to look. Also, any announcement Mary makes about there being a cd01, if that is what she intends, should specify where the schema can be found.

    Does that clarify my concern?

Just as an FYI, no official public review has been requested as of yet. I believe Patrick is still editing the specification. When the spec is ready, the TC will first approve it as a new committee draft and then approve submitting it for 60-day public review. The TC will need to provide me with the editable source, HTML, and PDF editions of the specification as well as all related files. Schemas/DTDs/etc must be in separate plain text files and verified by the TC to be valid/well-formed. The specification must meet the requirements set forth in the OASSI TC Process and conform to the OASIS templates and naming guidelines. Once approved, I then send out the notice and the official public review comment period begins.

    Regards,

    Mary

    Hi Mary,

I'm confused about the status of the document that was voted on last week. In 2.18 Specification Quality (http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/process.php#specQuality), there is this sentence:

"All TC-approved versions of documents (i.e. Committee Drafts, Public Review Drafts, and Committee Specifications) must be delivered to the TC’s document repository in the (1) editable source, (2) HTML or XHTML, and (3) PDF formats; and the TC must explicitly designate one of those delivered formats as the authoritative document."

The minutes of the 2/16 meeting state that there was "Approval of OpenDocument v1.2 draft 9 as Committee Draft," so it sounds to me like we need to publish in the three formats listed above, which are required for Committee Drafts (as well as Public Review Drafts). Is there a reason that sentence doesn't apply? I mention this because we're proactively asking for public feedback on ODF v-next, and I assume we'd want to assure the broadest possible readership for the Committee Draft so that people can understand what's in it when they make their suggestions.

    Thanks,
    Doug

    Hi Doug,

Your interpretation of the rules is correct. After the vote a new iteration of the current working draft should be created that is properly identified as Committee Draft 01 along with the date of approval, in each of the required formats, as well as any approved schemas, DTDs, etc.

The TC has not, as of yet, submitted the CD for Public Review (according to the notice the expected date is end of April). At this point (or any point in time in the life of a TC) all documents, emails, meeting minutes, etc. are publicly available and people are welcome to submit comments; when I receive a formal Public Review request I first complete a checklist of a couple dozen items to make sure the specs conform to our rules and then announce the review to our membership as well as any other lists that may be appropriate. Members and non-members alike are encouraged to forward that notice as appropriate.

    Regards,

    Rob/Michael/Patrick,

Has any progress been made on getting the HTML/PDF versions of Committee Draft 01 published as Mary had described below? Perhaps we can discuss this on the call tomorrow.

    Thanks,
    Doug

I just uploaded the PDF version. This is the same file that was given to
    JTC1/SC34.

Michael should upload the corresponding schemas.

Feel free to discuss the HTML version in the meeting tomorrow. I
certainly would like to hear what the recommended process for doing it is.
Are we just exporting from OpenOffice? Or is there some additional
processing/massaging of the HTML that is done before posting? Since in
general you cannot losslessly map from ODF to HTML, I find this OASIS
requirement problematic. It is essentially requiring us to produce a
version of the standard that will differ in unknown ways from the ODF
version, ways that may or may not be substantial. Unless someone is
willing to do a page-by-page comparison of all 792 pages, I would not
touch the HTML version for any serious purpose.

Fortunately, OASIS allows us to name one of the three formats as the
authoritative version, and in the past (such as with the recently
published Approved Errata) we have declared the PDF version to be the
    authoritative version.
