Hi, I have just loaded the first, complete draft of the TGF Pattern Language proposed standard to the KAVI document management system at OASIS. An earlier attempt to load was cancelled because of a major formatting error that was messing the document up. The correct version is: http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/document.php?document_id=42513   After talking with Colin, John, Chris and Andy, I have put forward an initial, very conservative lis of patterns which maps closely to the initial conformance criteria that we identified during elaboration of the Primer document. The only new concept ‘promoted’ to a distinct pattern is ‘Supplier Partnership’ that was not covered in the Primer as a conformance requirement.   This document is in three parts: -           Introduction with explanation of pattern languages and a worked (theoretical) example – we should replace this with an actual pattern from the final agreed set, to avoid confusion -           The 19 patterns that constitute the core language – several of them are completely written; some partially; others just a placeholder -           The conformance criteria – I have taken the language we used in the Primer and adapted it to refer to each pattern as necessary   For the TC meeting on Thursday, we need to: -           Agree in principle if we go ahead with a pattern language to create our TGF standard; -           Agree to create a ‘Committee Specification Draft’ from this working draft, that will start the formal process towards a standard; -           Agree who will complete the remaining text for the outstanding patterns, notably: o    4 Common Terminology o    5 Policy Management o    8 Franchise Marketplace o    14 Citizen Identity Management o    15 Channel Mapping and Delivery, and o    17 Resources Management I’m happy to take 4 and 17 – please look through: we’ll be looking for volunteers on Thursday or let me know via the list if you can take on one or more.   I hope this helps!   Best regards, Peter   Peter F Brown Independent Consultant Transforming our Relationships with Information Technologies www.peterfbrown.com P.O. Peter   Thanks for all your work on this.  I’ve now had a go at patterns for 5, 8, 14, and 15 – the four gaps on which you asked for volunteers.  The results are in the attached document (although you’ll see that on 15, I’ve suggested re-cutting this with the other channels material you had done on pattern 16, and making a total of 2 not 3 patterns on channels.)   As agreed, we’ll wait to combine this material into the overall document until after tomorrow’s call so we don’t get into versioning problems.  But I thought it would be sensible to circulate the extra material ahead of the call so people can have a look.   Chris Parker Managing Partner, CS Transform Ltd, +44 7951 754 060 From: Peter F Brown [mailto:peter@peterfbrown.com] Sent: 13 June 2011 20:39 To: TGF TC List Subject: [tgf] TGF Pattern Language Draft is available   Hi, I have just loaded the first, complete draft of the TGF Pattern Language proposed standard to the KAVI document management system at OASIS. Chris, This is great and very helpful – and lowers the barrier of entry of other volunteers to do any remaining work! ;-) As proposed earlier, I’ll only do a new Working Draft after the meeting when I can take on board this and all other contributions and comments.   All the best, Peter   From: Chris Parker [mailto:chris.parker@cstransform.com] Sent: 15 June 2011 13:15 To: Peter F Brown; TGF TC List Subject: RE: [tgf] TGF Pattern Language Draft is available   Peter   Thanks for all your work on this. +1 to that one Peter!   Whew! I had pencilled myself in for 18 (at least), but you've done a grand job Chris.   So I can announce that I have indeed done my 'deep read' last night. I picked up some of the things John picked up, and some others.   One of the great things about the PL approach is that it brings clarity and the logical linkage of concepts that are related in some way to each other.  But with that, you want even more!  (the opiate effect!) And that's where I have been going with this.  One consistency gap (well I *think* it is a gap), is that the Completion sections of the patterns never reference [19] the CSFs. I can relate all the CSFs back to the patterns so why not visa versa….?     And while John is tightening up the Conformance, I am leaning towards loosening them..again, relating back to the CSFs.       I think I would need 5-10mins on the call for my lot, so I'm starting to think that if everyone had their shot, we may need a longer call, or another call..   Cheers Colin   From: Peter F Brown [mailto:peter@peterfbrown.com] Sent: Thursday, 16 June 2011 2:51 a.m. To: 'Chris Parker'; 'TGF TC List ' Subject: RE: [tgf] TGF Pattern Language Draft is available   Chris, This is great and very helpful – and lowers the barrier of entry of other volunteers to do any remaining work! ;-) As proposed earlier, I’ll only do a new Working Draft after the meeting when I can take on board this and all other contributions and comments. Just on Colin’s last point, can I remind everyone that at the outset we set the scope of TC meeting to decision making exactly for the reason that Colin high-lights, ie we could spend all the time and more talking about detail.  I would suggest if people feel we need to have these more general type discussions then we set up more working calls.  Indeed I was intending to propose on today’s call that Peter set up weekly calls to finalise the drafting of the PL Spec.  So let’s try and agree that approach on the call today and stay focused on keeping things moving forward please.   John   From: Colin Wallis [mailto:Colin.Wallis@dia.govt.nz] Sent: 15 June 2011 23:37 To: 'TGF TC List ' Subject: RE: [tgf] TGF Pattern Language Draft is available   +1 to that one Peter!   Whew!
