Subject: Invitation to join Emergency Management Community/CollaborativeWork Environment

    Hi Everyone,

I want to extend an invitation to all recipients of this message to
visit a wiki page I have set up to facilitate building an Emergency
Management Community as part of a larger Public Service Preparedness
Portal that my company Starbourne Communications Design is building
    for the Non-Profit 501(c)(3) Corporation, Humanmarkup.org, Inc.

    http://humanml.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?EmergencyManagement

I want to note immediately that this effort is in no way intended to
provide for the kind of work that can be done in the OASIS Emergency
Management TC wiki. This wiki and community and is intended to
provide for efforts that either extend beyond what is appropriate for
the OASIS TC wiki or that are inappropriate for that wiki altogether,
such as building applications, conducting collaborative research or
working with companies, non-profits or individuals who are not
interested in standards work, per se, but which seek to collaborate
with partners in the Emergency Management community.

As a way to show the kind of facility this portal and wiki and
mailing lists can evolve into, I suggest you visit the federal
collaborative work environment that has evolved over the last few
years in service to the communities of practice that now exist to
extend beyond the traditional agency boundaries, encouraging the
effort in the federal government to increase information sharing,
and, incidentally, demonstrate ways in which consolidating
information will increase performance, and reduce costs associated
with maintaining the voluminous data archives of the government.

As most of you know, I am still recovering from a bout of pneumonia
with a slight apparent dose of congestive heart failure thrown in for
good measure, though that proved much less of a factor than
originally thought, thanks be. However, even six days out of the
hospital, I still tire easily, and I am not up to sustained work yet.

So, I am taking what advantage I can of this situation to put this
effort in motion. So, if you would like to use this facility for more
of the work that can extend our efforts in the EM TC and in the
HumanMarkup TC, please drop me a reply, and I will start building a
mailing list for this community, and we can schedule some time for a
teleconference to give you a brief introduction to the wiki and get
you started on having another environment in which to build projects,
particularly collaborative efforts such as extended testing of
implementations of the standards we are producing.

    Ciao,
    Rex
