As I am currently writing an activity report for a team, I went into
the problem of listing all its members with their contacts in an
annex.
The way I first did it is using a <variablelist>, put a <
personname> in each <term>, and a <para> with an
<author> in each <listitem>.
However, an <authorgroup> would seem closer to my idea of
a list of persons, and would avoid some verbosity. Thing is, <
authorgroup> was meant to be put in some <*info> or <
biblio*>, and processed as meta-information. Whereas one can
write an <author> almost anywhere, it is not possible to do so
with an <authorgroup>.

Sylvain,
Thanks for submitting this RFE. We (the DocBook TC)
discussed your request during out 2004-06-16 telcon and
decided not to make the change you suggested.
The rationale for not making the change is that both
as originally designed, both the Author and Authorgroup
elements were intended to be used only within the context
of the "info" or bibliographic section at the beginning of a
document, not within the main textual flow of a document.
So, it's possible that in a future version of DocBook, the
Author element will no longer be allowed within the main
textual flow of a document.
It's recommended that you use the Personname element
instead. To group multiple persons, you could use an
Itemizedlist or Simplelist or other list markup.
