OASIS eXtensible Access Control Markup Language (XACML) TC

  • 1.  Issue#69: location of XACML 2.0 schema files

    Posted 07-19-2007 15:17
The context schema contains an import of the policy schema from
    http://docs.oasis-open.org/xacml/access_control-xacml-2.0-policy-schema-os.xsd.

I suggest we change the links on the XACML TC web page that point to the
    2.0 schemas from: ["xacml/2.0/" location]

    http://docs.oasis-open.org/xacml/2.0/access_control-xacml-2.0-policy-schema-os.xsd
    http://docs.oasis-open.org/xacml/2.0/access_control-xacml-2.0-context-schema-os.xsd

    to ["xacml/" location]

    http://docs.oasis-open.org/xacml/access_control-xacml-2.0-policy-schema-os.xsd
    http://docs.oasis-open.org/xacml/access_control-xacml-2.0-context-schema-os.xsd

This would make the links consistent with the internally referenced
location, and with the examples in the XACML 2.0 core specification.

Unfortunately, the SAML profile schemas reference the 2.0 core schemas
at the xacml/2.0/ location. We can fix this in the SAML Profile Version
2 easily, and for people still trying to use Version 1, we can leave
copies of the schemas in the xacml/ location.

I am not aware of any other documents or schemas from which the 2.0
schemas are referenced. If anyone is aware of any, please post to the
list. I'll make sure the SAML 2.0 Version 2 and WS-XACML profiles
reference the 2.0 schemas from the xacml/ location.

    Regards,
    Anne

Addendum: the issue says the "correct location" is the "xacml/2.0/"
location, but that depends on how "correct" is determined. At the time
we originally approved the XACML 2.0 core specification and schemas for
OASIS standardization vote, the "xacml/2.0/" directory had not been
created. OASIS during the 2.0 standardization period decided to create
    version-specific sub-directories under each TC's main document
directory, so they stored the document and schemas in the "xacml/2.0/"
directory after the documents were approved. I think we did a
last-minute change to put the xacml/2.0/ directory location on the title
pages of the documents, but never realized at the time that the schemas
and examples also needed to be changed. - Anne
