A reminder there is a CAP SC meeting scheduled for tomorrow, Fri, at 1 PM Eastern. I will be unable to attend however, hopefully someone can take the meeting notes in my absence. The event types thesaurus and the DHS S&T comments were the agenda items. From the last meeting there were some actions items; Eliot to investigate thesaurus resources, David to send some hazard types and metadata, Elysa to send the DHS S&T material, and I was working on wording for the practices section.

Sorry you can't make it, Jake, I will attend and take notes if others feel we have sufficient voices and material. Eliot indicated that he would probably skip it because he hasn't prepared anything to present to us, but we can discuss the material that David posted https://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/emergency-cap/email/archives/201611/msg00000.html and that I responded with https://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/emergency-cap/email/archives/201611/msg00001.html . So we do have example material we can reference and discuss. I wanted to add some material from Eliot. The url for the pdf about the PAPE Key Messages he refers to in his email is http://www.ifrc.org/PageFiles/103320/Key-messages-for-Public-awareness-guide-EN.pdf I add this as another broad-based set of hazard/event types. Rex Rex, Thanks for the reminder but I guess I will skip it as I have not done anything yet wrt proposing an approach to nominate a reference set of event types. I am still hoping to engage on this with the IFRC GDPC, based on Omar Abou-Samra having expressed in Bangkok their urgent need for such a type system. Unfortunately, I have not heard back from Omar yet on this. I would note another interesting aspect of this work would be to intersect with the IFRC Public Awareness and Public Education (PAPE) Key Messages .The PAPE key messages are organized according to these hazard types (almost all natural hazards): • earthquakes • floods • tropical cyclones (referred to in different regions as cyclones, hurricanes or typhoons) • wildfires • pandemics • drought • storms (including lightning, tornadoes and snow, ice or hail) • release of chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear materials • landslides, debris flows and glacial breakout • tsunami and tidal surges • volcanic eruption • cold waves and heat waves Eliot On 11/17/2016 12:43 PM, rexbroo wrote: Sorry you can't make it, Jake, I will attend and take notes if others feel we have sufficient voices and material.
