The CAP Workshop will be 22-23 October, 9-5:30 CEST, in Rome, Italy, at the National Fire Corps Academy (Istituto Superiore Antincendi, ISA). The Workshop follows a day of CAP Training on 21 October, 9-5:30 CEST, also at ISA. Everyone interested in emergency alerting is welcome: managers, technical staff, media, etc., including government, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and commercial firms. The CAP Workshop Programme includes 23 presentations, introduced very briefly below. The impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on CAP-enabled crisis management is the topic of a presentation. There will also be a presentation on a flood forecasting AI initiative at Google. One presentation will focus on using CAP to alert healthcare workers of “heat events”, an initiative of the World Health Organization – WMO Joint Office for Climate and Health. Another presentation will describe the comprehensive CAP system in India known as ‘Sachet’. There will also be a presentation on lessons from Brazil’s CAP system, which includes an emphasis on inclusive alerting. Participants will see a presentation by an experienced Emergency Manager describing the emergency warning services covering fifteen cities, which includes Los Angeles, California, in the United States. The Emergency Telecommunications Cluster (ETC) will be introduced by its lead agency, the World Food Programme. ETC is a part of the UN Cluster Approach to coordinating non-refugee humanitarian emergencies. A presentation will discuss CAP implementation challenges in developing countries and the way forward. There will also be a presentation discussing the experiences and views of private weather services.
