    - Kris; sent out pdf with resolved comments, as well as a pdf of new review

    5. New indexing review: Dave Alvin
mail from Robert on new review  https://groups.oasis-open.org/discussion/base-spec-review-dave-alvin-indexes-and-index-elements-take-two#bm74b9d4d1-e352-4f2e-8d75-10fce618c60b

    - Robert; sent out comments and linked to the new review. just a few minutes ago. what's changed is that we'll take another pass at indexing, There were more comments per page than any other review we've had, not unexpected. content has changed significantly,  We took out a lot of descriptions prescribing output, now we have statements giving apps more freedome, also we're more precise about ranges, and we removed implicit end range.  now, if you have a start without and end, it means it's a point location, not a range.
    - Kris; Robert and I learned that it's important to open a review with not so many unresolved comments (didn't do this on that review).
    - Robert; which is one of the reasons we got so many comments.
    - Kris; Robert, what are correct indexing rules for ranges?
    - Robert; previous stuff about implied end is gone; more precision about what we mean by end of a topic, more about subtopics, about branching, we now say that if you have a start without an end, it's treated as a point reference. Before, the spec had various scenarios for start without end; those are gone. Also, we no longer assume that a start without an end goes to 'the end of a topic', since that could mean diff things depending on output (e.g. PDF vs. HTML) and chunking.
    - Kris; in PDF for new review, the changes we made from first review are highlighted to give some hints.  Also, we removed all draft-comments from before, and added 2 pertaining to new content for this review. one is a request for better phrasing for a particular item.
    - Robert; wrt new language in red, there's an entire new overview  topic at beginning of section, so a lot of red. The overview is in line with other 2.0 arch material, it describes what we mean by index, and how it's so implementation-dependent. and how it contains elements intended to support any of those cases.
    - Kris; so wrt a review time frame; how fast can we do this?
    [2-week timing]
    - Kris; so comments will close next Friday 8/23; that gives Robert and me time to look at comments and put on agenda for meeting.
Please look at the review, and pls check crispness of terminology, changed start/end element to start-of-range/end-of-range
    - Robert; also please check out new index overview topic at beginning, since it's never been reviewed.

    11:20 AM ET close
