STORK 2 - EU cross-border identity pilot projects

OK, So the main question is: Who feels that they could provide authoritative input and advice to the STORK 2 project, particularly with regard to SAML? If we can get a name, I’d be happy to provide the liaison with the proposed STORK 2 consortium to get them on board. But we have to be quick, as the deadline is looming….   And, yes, there is contractual money involved   Regards, Peter   From: Laurent M. OASIS does not possess IPR per se - our members do; that's why, even when we are members of another org, we contribute no IPR. But we do have people representing us in "consortia" or large-scale projects, such as STORK. I think SIENA is exactly like STORK and we have Gershon Janssen and John Borras speaking on behalf of OASIS: they provide advice and act as liaisons. That is completely feasible. As you know, we have a new TC set up to pursue work for PEPPOL (the OASIS BDX TC) that will hopefully provide a durable standard beyond the lifetime of that large-scale pilot – so the main question is: has STORK identified a “gap in the market” of IDM standards that needs to be filled? Hal, do you know if there is any precedence to hiring standards experts on contractual basis via Oasis? I would presume we just have to request someone from the SAML TC who is in Europe to be the liaison. When the EU Commission project officer for STORK learned about BDX, he told me it could be a model for STORK, so it is good that this is opportunity is now arising. The STORK SAML profile is based on earlier input from ENISA and related work on e-authentication in Europe. This work was presented to the Security Services TC in 2007 and at an OASIS Fall conference in London. The request for OASIS to participate in projects to provide expertise has come up many times in the past but there was no formal framework to support this model. Recently, OASIS has set up a relation with a not-for-profit organization in France which is able to act as legal entity in EU contracts and would be able to subcontract any experts work. Since this relation is now established (and to be announced soon), we should use this structure to support this. Pim

We have a test project called Siena in which John Borras and Gershon Janssen are involved, as I mentioned at the very beginning of this thread. Their contribution is "mediated" by AFNET (our French correspondent) so that their travel expenses can be paid. But they do not get compensated beyond that - that's what Gershon told me. This project might be different, I have no idea. I'm not sure how much input STORK wants; but the real point is that they may consider standardizing the security aspects or messaging in OASIS, following in the footsteps of PEPPOL. That is our end game. I hope this clarifies. Sounds like first-stage closure, all played out just as Laurent said this morning. STORK project wants some SAML experts. That's encouraging. Peter has called for some. We have one or two possibles. Terms of the exact deal between STORK project, OASIS & the experts, e.g., who pays travel, and whether they say some contractual intermediary like AFNET would be needed, will be gently explored in Peter's transmittal of the names back to Sra. Garcia Medina at ATOS. (Unless he delegates that.) We want them to know that we're looking for new gap-filling project needs: and Peter has done so. Laurent (or someone he designates) will let AFNET know. Sounds like a good days' work & all sorted out. Regards Jamie .
