  • 1.  Sponsoring Aberdeen speaker for KMIP webinar

    Posted 08-09-2012 16:02
KMIP TC members, We have the opportunity to feature Aberdeen analyst, Derek Brink, as a speaker in the upcoming KMIP TC webinar. In order to cover the $8,000 fee Aberdeen requires, we would need to identify one or more company sponsors. The fee would be divided by the number of companies who are interested. Webinar sponsors would have their logos featured in the webinar promotion and in the introduction and conclusion slides. The webinar will be recorded and posted online. Aberdeen will help us promote the webinar, so there will be additional visibility through them. As you probably know, Derek recently published an Aberdeen report on key management which includes a great endorsement for KMIP. The report is available without charge for a limited time at: http://www.aberdeen.com/Aberdeen-Library/8081/RB-encryption-key-management.aspx If your company might be interested in sponsoring the KMIP TC webinar, please let me know by 15 August. Obviously, we can't ask anyone to commit until we know the exact sponsorship fee, and we'll determine that based on how many companies respond. Given Bruce Rich's earlier response on the terms and conditions for accessing the report (i.e. "for personal and non-commercial use only") this doesn't seem appropriate.

I should clarify that having the Aberdeen analyst speak at the KMIP TC webinar is merely an option for the TC's consideration. I think Derek would be a real draw and Aberdeen's help in promotion should translate to a larger audience, but it's not a requirement, and the TC should not feel pressured in any way to do this. We certainly can proceed with plans to hold the KMIP TC webinar without Aberdeen. Peter makes a good point about access to the report. I should add that Aberdeen has offered to provide us with a license to the report for $13,000, so that we could make it available in any way we want. Funding that would work the same as the webinar. The cost could be covered by one or more sponsors from the TC; those companies could have their logos featured on the report. If there's interest in that, I can get more details. ~Carol On Thu, Aug 9, 2012 at 1:04 PM, Reed,Peter <Peter.Reed@safenet-inc.com> wrote: > Given Bruce Rich's earlier response on the terms and conditions for accessing the report (i.e. "for personal and non-commercial use only") this doesn't seem appropriate. > > >

Hi - As we discussed in yesterday KMIP TC call, if your company is interested in co-sponsoring Derek Brink as a speaker for the KMIP webinar and/or co-sponsoring availability of Derek's report, please let Carol know within the next week or so. Carol, is that about the right timing? Regards, Bob

Please let me know if your company may be interested (no commitments) by 15 August. Then, we can calculate the cost, and people will have time to make their final decisions. Since no one expressed interest in sponsoring Derek Brink's speaker's fee for the KMIP TC webinar, I'll notify Aberdeen that we're going to pass. The TC can move forward with scheduling the webinar, and we'll start promoting it. (Of course, we can cite the Aberdeen report in our slides.) Hi Carol –   Thanks very much. I’ll put together an abstract/announcement for the webinar and circulate it to the TC, based on this decision.   Regards, Bob     From: kmip@lists.oasis-open.org [mailto:kmip@lists.oasis-open.org] On Behalf Of Carol Geyer Sent: Wednesday, August 15, 2012 4:30 PM To: kmip@lists.oasis-open.org Subject: Re: [kmip] Sponsoring Aberdeen speaker for KMIP webinar   Since no one expressed interest in sponsoring Derek Brink's speaker's fee for the KMIP TC webinar, I'll notify Aberdeen that we're going to pass.
