  • 1.  KMIP 3.0 Proposal - Other System Objects

    Posted 03-19-2025 22:28

Just working my way through the remaining items on the KMIP 3.0 Wiki List and trying to clear out the approval trails, etc.

In the Pending Proposals area there was an item called Other System Objects which I have now corrected the link for the proposal

The Actions field indicated that "More detailed proposals are needed" but the Status field contains the following detail, "Spec Delta approved 17-Dec-2020;spec update included in." Note that there was no WD version mentioned in either the old or new Wiki so that is not an error from the conversion.

The proposal was presented on day two of the Face-to-Face on February 21, 2020  and the minutes are not clear on exactly what was resolved as there are two points under this topic indicating that "More detailed proposals are needed" and "No motions needed for this presentation."

I have scanned the meeting minutes for the period since that Face-to-Face meting and can find no additional motions since then approving the proposal despite the comment that was listsed in the KMIP 3.0 proposal. Certainly there is nothing in the minutes for 17-December-2020

I have also looked at the markup versions of the document subsequent to the initial KMIP Spec V3.0 WD01 and found that I can find that a System Object has been added to KMIP Spec V3.0 WD03

Can people please review this let me know if this satisfies the proposal so we can close this out at the next meeting?

    Thanks
    Greg

The reason you cannot find the follow up proposal is that it was never written.

We ended up not producing a proposal with the "more details" requested amongst all the other work. Rights remains only part of the Delegated Login handling and we still have Set Defaults (added in KMIP-2.1) but neither ended up as new system objects. We have just the User, Group and four Credentials system objects defined for KMIP-3.0.

I had mentally deferred that to KMIP-3.1 given all the other changes we had in place and it was left on the "future work" pile.
