  • 1.  OASIS Best Current Practices: Document Life Cycle

TC Member:  Kelly Cullinane circulated this information in early September but I suspect it may have flown under the radar for many:

The first OASIS Best Current Practices (OBCP) document called the Document Life Cycle Best Practices for Technical Committees has been released. This document contains both a summary of the work product process (relevant to TC Process version 22 July 2020) and some guidance on how to streamline that process. It also discusses how an OASIS Technical Committee (TC)'s Work Product progresses through the various development stages of its lifecycle. The document can be found here: https://www.oasis-open.org/policies-guidelines/document-life-cycle-best-practices/

This document identifies some process changes (e.g., there aren't any more "working drafts" after the first CSD approval for a work product) and streamlining rules that a TC can formally adopt. I will be placing this on the agenda for discussion at the 13 November working meeting and the 30 November TC meeting for familiarization / review. I will also draft motions related to the streamlining proposals so that the TC can explicitly consider and accept / reject them for our work product development.

(this email addresses an action assigned during the 23 October working meeting)

TC Members: a reminder of this agenda topic for next week's TC meeting. If you haven't yet looked at the new Best Practices Document, please try to find some time to do so before the meeting. At a minimum it would be helpful if eligible voting members would review paragraphs 3.2.4, 3.4.1, and 3.6.1 which describe the new standing rules a TC may optionally adopt to streamline the working product development process. The agenda for the 20 November TC meeting will include a motion for each of the 3 standing rules so that the TC can transparently adopt or decline each of them.

    Thank you.
