  • 1.  Question about transcription scheme tag

    Posted 12-02-2024 05:43

    Hi,

at JSI, we are transforming several legacy dictionaries into DMLex. Some of them have rather simple custom ways of indicating stress, for example [a]vto, where [] is used to indicate the stress position. We thought about using transcriptionSchemeTag, but it seems that the tag element has to be an IETF language tag. Is it possible to record this information in DMLex?

    4.2.8 transcriptionSchemeTag
Represents one (of many) possible values for scheme of transcription.
    Property of • lexicographicResource
Properties • tag REQUIRED (exactly one) and UNIQUE. An IETF language tag.

Apologies, if this is not the right forum for such questions. If there is a better place to ask this, please let me know.

    Hi Andraz,

you can either convert the pronunciation into something standard such
as SAMPA or IPA, and then use the corresponding IETF language subtag
(e.g. "-fonipa" in case of IPA) or you can create your private subtag
using the "-x" prefix for whatever custom transcription you use.

    See https://www.iana.org/assignments/language-subtag-registry/language-subtag-registry
for a list of transcriptions already having an assigned subtag.
