  • 1.  Specification feedback for URI-based (direct) addressing

    Posted 03-03-2025 10:06

    Hi All,

I have several recommendations for URI-based (direct) addressing in the DITA specification:

    • The word "may" appeared in a different font whenever it was in introduced into the text (about two times in the topic). I am guessing there might be a background history of the need to emphasize this word, but I wanted to check to be sure.
    • It would helpful to show the differences among the bullets, as shown in the following rework:

Consider URI addressing used in the following scenarios:

      • Within the same topic: If a document has a root element that is a topic, a URI reference (without a fragment identifier) implicitly references the topic element itself.
      • To multiple topics in a <dita> document (Linking): When a <dita> document contains multiple topics, a URI reference to this document implicitly references the first child topic for the purposes of linking.
      • To multiple topics in a <dita> document (rendering): For rending purposes, if a <dita> document contains multiple topics, a URI reference to this document implicitly references all topics within the <dita> element. This means that all topics within the <dita> element will be rendered in the output.

I hope that you found these edits helpful.

      Best,

      Christina

Quick follow-up. I recommend that (Linking) referenced in the text should be lowercase because it is not a proper noun. I want to assure you that these changes were made with the best intentions and in good faith, with the aim of enhancing the overall quality and accuracy of the content.
