Technical
XLIFF 2.2 public review. https://groups.oasis-open.org/discussion/invitation-to-comment-on-xliff-v22-csd01-1 . New version that takes into account the comments received during the public review and next steps.
L: The ballot has passed and we contacted the OASIS administration, we are waiting for their answer to initiate the second public review.
New translation memory standard.
R: There is nothing new. XLIFF is bilingual, so we might need to have multilingual format.
M: I wanted to look at TMX before working on this new idea. I was wondering if they had something to declare the state of a translation.
L: in XLIFF 1.2 there were 10 different predefined attributes for the attribute state. As it was difficult for CAT tools to process them sometimes, in xliff 2.0 the list was simplified to 4.
M: I see, this shorter list might not be enough.
R: You could use substate if it is not enough.
M: but if we create our own values, we lose the advantage of using a standarised format. We could bring back the old ones for the TM standard.
R: We might want also to have a context mechanism. In XLIFF as you have the whole document, you have it. I was thinking about using mda:metadata for that.
M: My idea was to study the old TMX and see how we can reuse it.
R: I have somewhere in my pc TMX 2.0. It was ready to be published but then LISA disappeared. I still have the draft. One of the problems with TMX is that it was based on DTD so it did not have a namespace so it could not be embedded in other formats. One of the changes of TMX 2.0 was.
M: What do you think about approaching the OKAPI people with our idea?
R/l: I think it is a good idea indeed. All feedback is welcome.
