  • 1.  MQTT TC Vitality - important information for our next TC meeting

    Posted an hour ago
    Hi all,

Following my email on 14th of November, Ian Craggs has now scheduled a TC meeting for Monday 1st of December 2025 at 16:00 GMT / 11:00 EST.

    The agenda is as follows:

    Agenda

    1. TC Vitality process
    2. MQTT-SN specification updates and recommendations
    3. MQTT-TC approve progressing MQTT-SN to Committee Specification Draft
    4. Update on QUIC transport from William Yang (EMQ)

Please contact me if you would like to add anything to the agenda.

Section 1.10 of the TC Process [1] requires OASIS Technical Committees to evaluate their charter and decide by full majority vote on continuation of the TC's mission. We approved our charter in 2021 with the mission to take the MQTT-SN protocol as an input specification and to develop it as an OASIS standard. We created an MQTT-SN subcommittee to focus on developing MQTT-SN and structuring the protocol into an OASIS working draft template. That work has now reached a milestone, and the subcommittee is ready to bring MQTT-SN to the wider TC to enable us to progress to Committee Specification Draft (CSD). As such, it is my assumption that the TC feels that we can continue with our current charter.

As per section 1.4 of the OASIS Operations Process [2] we are required every two years, or at the time of a charter verification, to re-appoint our TC chairs. The nomination period is now open and will close on the 1st of December 2025 at 12:00 GMT. If would like to nominate someone else, please check with them first to make sure they are able and willing to serve. If only two names are submitted, then those individuals will become the TC Chair(s) starting on 1st of December 2025 on the approval of the TC at the scheduled meeting. If more than two names are submitted, the current chairs will run a full majority ballot in the following weeks via the official OASIS voting system. I would like to take this opportunity to put myself forward as a candidate for the role of chair. I would be delighted to continue serving the MQTT TC and the journey we began in 2013, and in adding MQTT-SN as an OASIS standard alongside MQTT 3.1.1 and 5.0.

If you have any questions, then please contact me.

Thank you Richard for your email and your continued dedication to the committee. I would also like to propose myself for the Chairman role.
