    Hi, Kelly.

I just sent an e-mail to the DITA TC and received the below e-mail.

What now happens when TC members send e-mail with attachments? Are the attachments somehow added to the new document repository?

    Best,

    Kris

    Hi Kris:

I actually had a call with the dev support team late last week on this question.

As it currently stands, items attached and sent to the mailing list will not be loaded into the document repository. Ideally, I would like to change this so we have some sort of library to collect all documents that are sent to the mailing list. I think this functionality might exist within the tool and we just need to explore the configuration.

I would recommend uploading documents to the repository and then checking the box that sends an email notice to the mailing list so you can be sure the document is retained in the workspace and so that everyone knows about it. From there, you can start any discussions via email by linking to the document.

    I'll keep looking into this,
    Kelly

    Hi, Kelly.

Uploading files into the TC repository and selecting the checkbox to send a notification to the TC e-mail list is certainly how we have traditionally done things.

It's just that we are in new territory with the new infrastructure, and looking for maps or other guidance as to the terrain.

Yesterday I clicked the "View Library Entry" link in the automated e-mail sent to me by the system and was taken to a page with options for tags and keywords, also related entries and links (screen capture below). How do tags, keywords, related entries, and links function in the new infrastructure?

    Best,

    Kris

    Hi Kris:

I don't want to drown you in documentation, but I did find this article on tags in the documentation from the product owner: https://support.higherlogic.com/hc/en-us/articles/360032700312-Tags

I think the TL;DR is that tags are a way to sort your content, as expected, but will carry across all TCs.

In other words, tags do not seem specific to any one TC so if you tag something using the same exact tag as another TC, your content will get lumped together. I don't think that is a reason not to use them, but just so you are aware. If you wanted to use tags, I'm sure we could think of something very specific so the same tag is not replicated by another TC. By extension, keywords and related entries seem to be the search terms entered into the search bar to pull up the tags. I'm a little fuzzy on that, but I think I'm heading in the right direction.
